Crunching Floor Tiles

As a general rule tiles larger than 12x12 inches should have mortar applied to the back of the tile as well as the floor to help ensure adequate coverage.

Most tiles comply with astm c648 breaking strength standards. Recently i noticed that a few of the floor tiles in the kitchen make a crunching sound when walked on. On closer inspection i can see that the tiles are moving very slightly against the grout which is causing the sound. There is a almost unnoticeable bulge where one of the tile comes up. Reinforcing your floor will make for a more solid and level surface. So it is hard to say if a crunching sound is a squeaking sound or what.
